Once you have chosen items from the on-line catalog that might be of interest to you, just send us another email stating the product code and the estimated quantity that you might be interested in ordering.  The estimated quantity affects the price we can offer you. PLACE AN ORDER

Once you have made your selection, you can place your order on your own order form, or by a simple email.

Selyn will confirm your order by sending you an order confirmation sheet in the Selyn format.  We will ask you to sign and return that form.  Please note the following general terms for ordering:

- In general, an order takes 90 days to produce, though this will vary depending on how big the order is, and how many other orders are waiting in line at the toy factory.

- A 50% advance on the order sum must be received before productiion on the order will start.

- All information on the order confirmation sheet are to be fully fillled out, so that we know exactly how to proceed on labelling, packing, and shipping.

- The balance 50% of the order amount (plus shipping costs if pre-paid by Selyn) must be paid before the original shipping documents will be released to the customer.

Please note that for each product, a minimum order quantity(MOQ) is indicated.  Orders smaller than our MOQ create problems at the toy factory when we have to 're-tool' the prodution line.  This takes time and thus seriously effects our productivity, which again affects prices.  Thanks for your understanding.

The minimum invoice amount we request for an order is USD 3500, or EUR 2500.  These are set in order to keep the effectivity of the producton process at a reasonable level, so that we again can keep our prices at a reasonable level.

SAMPLES FROM THE SELYN COLLECTION

Samples of Selyn in-house products can be ordered by sending us a simple email which specifies the desired items by code and description.

Up to ten product samples will be provided free of charge.  Beyond this, a fee corresponding to two times the export price will charged to the customer.  This amount must be paid to Selyn before the sample shipment will be made. For those items where the customer later orders our minimum order quantity, the sample charges paid for those items will be credited on the invoice at the time of shipment.

At the time of placing the sample order, the customer is asked to provide a courier account number, so that the cost of transport is borne by the customer.

Please be aware that sample shipment also can take some time.  Selyn does not have a warehouse, and makes samples one by one.  Be sure to specify your expected date of delivery on the sample order sheet.  Selyn will confirm a realistic date of delivery for your samples.  This normally will be about 60 days from the time of sample order, depending on what other sample orders are in at the time.

SAMPLES OF CUSTOMERS' OWN DESIGNS

Selyn is constantly being asked to develop samples for customers.  This is a significant expense for the company, so we have developed a simple set of guidelines for how these sample requests will be handled.

We ask that the customer submit all product specifications at the time of the sample order confirmation, including drawings/photos, sizes, colors, etc.  The more detailing, the better.  Please remember too that we are working across cultures, and that 'blue' in Sri Lanka might be different than 'blue' elsewhere.  Be specific.

Please be aware, depending on the amount of work on hand, that sample production can take up to two months, and sometimes longer.  Product development takes time, and we are usually juggling up to ten sample orders at a time!

During the prototype production stage on completely new types of products, photographs will be sent to the customer at two stages: 1) a plain white dummy will be made in order to get the cutting blocks correct.  2) a colored photograph will be sent once the client has approved the dummy, and a colored prototype is produced.

Once this color photograph is approved, the samples will be sent by courier.  The customer is kindly asked to provide their courier account number to Selyn, so that the cost of transport is covered by the customer.  In this way, both Selyn and the customer are investing in the effort together.

A sample charge can be levied, but will not exceed USD 50 pr. item.  Also this fee will be refunded to the customer as a credit on the invoice if the minimum order quantity is ordered at a later date.

The customer can request adjustments be made once on the samples free of charge, but any second round of changes will be charged at a maximum of USD 25 pr. item.  This fee will not be refunded if the item is order at a later date.

Selyn reserves the right to decline to develop samples for a client if there is an unreasonably large number of samples being requested, if there is not a solid historical business relationship behind the request. or if indicated future order quantities are not of a reasonable size.  Sample production is a significant burden on the resources of the company, so we thank you for your understanding!

Any design submitted by a customer to Selyn for production is the exclusive property of the customer.

Any design created by Selyn is the exclusive property of Selyn.  Selyn is willing to negotiate exclusivity for a specific country or region for products that are part of the Selyn in house collection, given that order quantities can defend that decision.

Design sketches without a complete design, sizes, fabric color specifications, etc. cannot be claimed to be exclusively the customer's when Selyn on our side are asked to invest extensively in development of the concept as well as the product.  In these cases, Selyn generally gives exclusivity in the customer's home country, but retains the right to sell it in all other markets, unless the customer's order quantities defend giving exclusivity on a wider basis.

There are bound to be issues of the 'mine, yours, ours' type that arise regarding aspects of exclusivity.  Selyn will handle these in an atmosphere of respect and honesty, and aim at solutions that serve both the customer needs and Selyn's ongoing effort to secure jobs for women in Sri Lanka.

SELYN IN-HOUSE COLLECTION

All products that are a part of the Selyn in-house collection have been or will be tested for European EN-71 parts 1, 2, and 3.  This is because the vast majority of our customers as of today are in Europe.

We have the capability of testing for the American ASTM system, but will do so only on a case by case basis.  Whether we ask the customer to pay for this ASTM testing depends on the order volumes in question.  The fact that the European and American toy safety testing systems are not coordinated is a serious problem for small and producers around the world, forcing us to pay twice for largely the same tests!

Some European countries are more specific than others on testing.  Tests for AZO, cadmium, and phtalate are required in Germany and sometimes other countries, for example.  Selyn encourages the client to do this additional testing in their own countries.

CUSTOMERS' OWN DESIGNS

Products where the customer has exclusive rights can be tested by Selyn, but the customer must bear the cost of these tests.

LABELLING

Selyn's standard labelling of products is a single simple 'silk' label with the Selyn logo on it.  If the order is for more than the indicated MOQ, then we can offer to print the customer's logo on that 'silk' label, but only if there is a maximum of four colors used in the logo.  Any other labelling (in other materials, with more colors, or with more than one label) is at the expense of the customer.

The customer is asked to clearly specify the labelling he/she wants when placing their order. In addition to 'silk', both embroidered and paper-like labels are available, but cost a bit more.

Note that when making a request for the use of one's own logo, that a PDF file of the logo should be submitted together with the order.  Once that file is received, a mock-up of the label with price quotation will be sent to the customer for approval before production starts.

The customer must specify safety labelling in their order form. Other information such as washing instructions, website, etc., can also be indicated.

Selyn requests that on the back side of a label on each product a small Selyn label, our website address, and the text 'handmade in Sri Lanka' be placed.  The client's approval for this is requested on the order confirmation form.

PACKAGING

Selyn's standard packaging of products is a simple cellophane bag.

A large variety of different packaging possibilities exist, from boxes and window boxes, to headers at the top of the cellophane bag.  While all of these can be done, they are at the expense of the customer.

The customer is asked to specify his/her packaging requirements in their order.  Quotes for special packaging can be made, if the necessary artwork is provided in a PDF file.  In general, Selyn discourages too much packaging out of consideration for the environment.

Any choking warning stickers needed on the cellophane bag should be specified on the order form.

For master cartons, Selyn re-uses strong, solid cartons sourced from importers.  These vary in size, and cannot be ordered in a specific size.  If a client requires a special size of master carton, this would have to be ordered at a significant extra expense.

Selyn generally uses two types of filling in their stuffed products.  Some clients prefer kapok, a natural and eco-friendly material.  Others prefer a synthetic polyfill because it is both lighter and cheaper than the kapok.  A particular problem with kapok is that it quickly absorbs moisture.  This coupled with the fact that moisture-absorbing gel packets have been banned in some countries, is making the packing and shipment of kapok-filled items a challenge.

It is the choice of the customer whether they want their products filled with kapok or polyfilll.  Thiis choice is the be indicated on the (order form).  Selyn bears no responsibility for problems with kapok-filled items during transport.  If you have any questions in this regard, please contact us.

Selyn ships the vast majority of its export orders by sea, though air transport services are available.  It is perfectly possible for us, given a proforma order, to estimate the cost of shipment for your order, either by sea or air.  If you would like to know more about what a cubic meter would cost if shipped to your nearest port, then contact us.

Please note that all prices quoted to you will be FOB Colombo.  Other prices can be quoted(C+F, CIF, etc) if specifically requested, but we do discourage that.

Be aware that Selyn is obliged to pay a EUR 100 handling fee to the Sri Lankan customs for any shipment not going by a courier service(exclusive of EMS, whom we discourage the use of due to repeated thefts from shipments).  The client will be asked to cover this fee if the order is for less than the minimum order amount we have stated above.
